Robert replaced our flat roof a while ago which involved removing all our solar panels & refitting them too. He recently returned to repoint the ridge tiles on other parts of the building. Excellent workmanship & thoroughly nice man.

From providing an estimate through to completion of the work their communication was very good. The work was carried out when scheduled and to a high standard. All workers were professional, polite and friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Very neat and tidy work, and sensible pricing

I asked Robert to investigate 3 things raised in a surveyors report about a single storey extension when I bought my house, including whether the shallow pitch of the roof could be an issue causing water ingress. Robert recommended some lead flashing work but said if the single extension roof leaked then it was likely to be the windows due to the wrong flashing kit on them and the right kits were no longer available. He didn’t mention the pitch of the roof so I assumed he had dismissed that as a cause. Robert did the flashing work, but when leaks kept happening I chose a double glazing firm more local to keep costs down and had 3 new velux windows replaced, but the roof kept leaking. When I called Robert back out he was keen to blame the double glazing company but after some going backwards and forwards they pointed out that the tiles were the wrong type for a 15 degree pitch roof and this was likely to be the cause. Robert then claimed that he had discussed that with me - which he categorically hadn’t. Despite asking for details of the alleged conversation all he would say is “we both know what was discussed”. Had I know there was a possibility that the tiles were wrong I would have opted for a retile to ensure the issues were dealt with in one go rather than having 3 lots of work which is what I have ended up with.

I ended up taking Robert through the ADR process because he refused to accept any responsibility for failing to correctly diagnosing the issues - at ADR Robert accused me of fraudulently altering some screenshots I had submitted as evidence, whilst also mentioning he knew who I worked for which has no relevance to his defence. As a result of this I had to warn my employers that I was being accused of fraud because I was concerned as to why he was bringing my employers into the dispute.

I was able to show the screenshots were not altered, but I was blamed again for failing to point out the differences in the screenshots in advance! I submitted quotes from other trusted trader/which trusted trader members and some other local firms who all said a retile was necessary. ADR agreed Robert had not done his job with reasonable care and skill and I got a partial refund. Robert did some work to the main roof as part of the contract so I wasn’t refunded for that.

In the end I have had the extension retiled - during this process when the tiles were off, it was clear where the main source of water ingress was - further down the roof in an area under a down pipe coming from the main roof with water then travelling down the rest of the roof - so nowhere near the new windows as Robert alleged. Since having it retiled we have had some heavy rain and I am now confident that I no longer have water cascading down my walls.

I’m sure Robert is good at straight forward jobs, but my experience was a negative one and blaming everyone else and accusing me of fraudulently altering documents is not the behaviour I would expect to see from a competent professional.

I had a slate which had slid down the roof. Aldridge Roofing responded within a day of my call and visited the following day to replace the slate. They noticed that 2 other slates were broken and replaced theses as well. They checked the rest of the roof to make sure there were no other broken/loose slates. They were extremely helpful.

Repairs to roof

I found them to be reliable, hard working and very helpfull.

This is the second job Mr Aldridge has done for me. Again, he gave me informed advice and carried out a thorough examination of the roof. He and his workman were friendly, arrived punctually, executed the work with minimum disturbance and at a fair price. I wish all construction workers were like this.
