A & J Construction is a Trading Standards Approved Norfolk Trusted Trader, providing quality building services to homeowners right across Norfolk. Working from two bases in Norwich and South Norfolk, our team of five covers extensions large and small, new builds, renovations and conversions, groundworks and hard landscaping. We take real pride in seeing every project through from start to finish.

I originally started the business back in 2011, having spent 12 years as a site manager for a construction company. I felt the time was right to set up on my own, and I have never looked back. Jack joined me six years later, and between us we now bring around 30 years of combined experience to every job. We have deliberately kept the team at a size where we can stay hands on, keep our standards high and get a project completed in good time.

Why we joined Norfolk Trusted Trader

We joined the scheme for a whole host of reasons: to raise our profile, to generate more leads, and because we genuinely liked the idea of higher standards within our industry. Most of all, we wanted a straightforward way to prove to people that we are a genuine business. Being able to promote ourselves as vetted and Trading Standards Approved, with a rating built up over many years, does exactly that.

I found the vetting process very straightforward, and pleasingly thorough. That depth is a good thing, because it proves once again that we have nothing to hide. It is reassuring to know that homeowners can search the scheme and see for themselves that we have been independently checked.

What membership has meant

Membership has met and exceeded what we hoped for. Around 70% of our work now comes through the scheme, which really speaks for itself, and I am convinced our 5 out of 5 rating is a big part of that. The reviews matter enormously to us, and the ability for customers to leave honest feedback is such a great idea, because it gives new customers real confidence before they ever pick up the phone.

The benefit is clearest during the quieter parts of the year. Even through periods like the summer holidays, when work can traditionally slow down, we still see a steady flow of enquiries coming through our Trusted Trader profile. We promote our membership wherever we can, including the Trusted Trader link on our website, and happily the scheme has worked so smoothly that we have never needed to call on the team to resolve anything.

Looking ahead

Our plan is a simple one: to carry on doing what we do well. We are at a comfortable size, and that is a deliberate choice. We believe growing too big could affect the reliability and the timelines our customers depend on, and we are not willing to put those at risk.

Ultimately, our main aim is to leave every customer happy and pleased with the finished result we have created for them. That is what gives us the greatest satisfaction, and it is what we will always work towards.
